Boys Varsity Swimming, Girls Varsity Swimming · Denton Swimmers Perform Well at UIL Regionals

Fourteen Bronco Swimmers competed in the 2017 UIL Region 2-5A Championships at Mansfield last week. They went head-to-head against the top 5A-4A-3A swimmers from 26 schools across the western half of the DFW Metroplex. When all was said and done, our very own Seth Herrmann found himself on the medal stand with a silver medal by finishing 2nd in the 200 Free. He will be making the trip to Austin on Feb 17-18 as a State Qualifier.

Herrmann, a junior, also brought home the bronze medal by finishing third in the 100 Free.

Delia Breedlove bronze medal UIL Region 2-5A ChampionshipsAnother Bronco junior earning a bronze medal was Delia Breedlove who took third in the 50 Free. She established a personal best time of 24.82, and is now only 0.26 seconds away from breaking a 23-year old Denton ISD record in the event. She’ll be setting her sights on rewriting the DHS record book when she returns to the pool as a senior next year.

Other Bronco swimmers who had success at the UIL Regional Championships included:

Zackery Clark – 7th Place (200 Free) and 10th Place (100 Breast).

Lucija Ruzevic – 15th Place (100 Breast).

Boys 4 x 200 Free Relay Team – 8th Place (Clark, Devon Fairbanks, Rayce Richter, Herrmann).

Girls 4 x 200 Free Relay Team – 9th Place; 7th Best Overall Time (Karese Arnold, Tabitha Barron, Ruzevic, Breedlove).

Girls 4 x 400 Free Relay Team – 11th Place (D. Fairbanks, Tristan Fairbanks, Clark, Bruce Tran).

Seven individual swimmers set personal best times at the meet: Arnold (100 Back), Breedlove (50 Free and 100 Free), Clark (200 Free and 100 Breast), Megan Harbin (100 Back), Herrmann (100 Free and 200 Free), Ruzevic (100 Breast) and Caden Young (100 Breast).

What’s exciting about this group of Bronco swimmers is that it is a very young team. Only Arnold and Tran will be graduating from DHS this year. The returning swimmers will continue to get stronger and faster. We may see a number of Denton High swim records fall next year!

Congratulations to all of the Broncos for their hard work and effort. Good luck to Seth Herrmann at State!
